*STAB STAB STAB* Get out my city you crazy lady! Sarah Palin implied that the Founding Fathers would have opposed a separation of church and state. "Lest anyone try to convince you that God should be separated from the state, our Founding Fathers, they were believers," Palin told the crowd. "And George Washington, he saw faith in God as basic to life."

Okay what Historical Text have you read Sarah?

"History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance of which their civil as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purposes" THOMAS JEFFERSON - Letter to von Humboldt, 1813

JOHN ADAMS: "The government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion." Treaty of Tripoly, article 11

James Madison [1751-1836] American president and political theorist. Popularly known as the "Father of the Constitution." More than any other framer he is responsible for the content and form of the First Amendment. Here's a quote from him: "Every new and successful example, therefore, of a perfect separation between the ecclesiastical and civil matters, is of importance; and I have no doubt that every new example will succeed, as every past one has done, in showing that religion and Government will both exist in greater purity the less they are mixed together" Letter to Edward Livingston, July 10, 1822

That's only three of MANY quotes I have handy, want more Sarah? How about some from Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Paine more of our founding fathers? How many founding fathers do you need quotes from to grasp the concept Mrs. Palin?

So tell me again Sarah about the founding fathers WANTING a theocracy... You stupid BITCH!

*lurker popping in*

Sorry to pop in, but to add historic info to the arguement.

I had to do a paper on book on George Washington in college and I recall somewhere hearing some other info.

None of the founding fathers were actually particularly religious. Even those that attended church regularly did so more because it was the thing higher class did than, rather for religious conviction.

Yup, it was the age of enlightenment, most of them were Deists. They believed in a "Higher Power" of sorts, but entirely discounted Christianity and Christ as fables. Here's a great quote:

"The day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the Supreme Being as His father, in the womb of a virgin will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter."Thomas Jefferson in a Letter to John Adams, April 11, 1823

Sarah drives me BONKERS. My family is hypo religious so when I try to point stuff out to them too they get all angry and don't listen. Its never gonna change. People will never look at facts. They will always BELIEVE they are right and everyone else is wrong. Stupid lol
