OUCH -- Car Accident for Christmas

First the Good News:
John took me out to the ballet on the 23rd, we Saw "The Nutcracker" and it was lovely.
Then Christmas Eve's Formal Affair complete with evening gowns and tuxedos (Yes, I wore an evening dress believe it or not) which we spent with John's Family (We hosted the Dinner) again it was lovely.
Christmas Day my Parent's came over and we Hosted a more casual Christmas Dinner. I never got out of my pajamas ^_^

Then I went to Best Buy the morning of the 26th. Mom and Dad got me a lovely 12.1 mega pixel Sony camera for Christmas and I wanted to get a memory stick for it. So took my camera, got the memory stick... loaded it in the camera and then proceeded to drive home.
I had just turned onto the road out of the parking lot... I had right of way through the intersection... when WHAM out of nowhere this 17-18 year old girl driving a honking big Ford Explorer just drives right through her stop sign and I "T-Bone" her passenger door.
Thankfully I had my brand new camera and a brand new memory stick to take pictures at the scene.

My Car is totaled. (Click for larger Images)

My back is killing me, went to the Emergency room and have acute cervical strain and lower back strain and chest contusions from the seat belt but other than that I am okay.
LUCKILY... because my AIR BAG did NOT GO OFF! And it should have with a front end collision at 10-20 mph which I was travelling.
I am going to seriously get a lawyer to contact KIA and find out why my AIR BAG failed to deploy, that could be a serious fatal problem for someone else going any faster than I was.

But back to happier stuff... Christmas Photos with my New Camera....
It takes GORGEOUS pictures.

*hugs* I'm so glad your alright!

Everyone seems to be getting into accidents but come out fine. My sister was driving in snow and slammed into a guardrail going downhill, but she's fine too. :D

Well, I'm glad you had a good Christmas! Sorry about your car. At least she was insured??? I don't know why people who drive large vehicles seem to forget that traffic laws and laws of physics apply to them too.

I'm very sorry to hear about your car, and even more so about your back. I hope they gave you something strong to help with the pain.

You pictures are very pretty! I'm glad you at least had a nice time before the accident. It sounds like you really enjoyed yourself. *hugs*

such pretty pics, I am very glad you are okay. Argh, idiot drivers.

*HUGS* Wow, I'm so happy to hear you're okay after that crash! Camera's are very good things to have at hand. I keep a disposable camera in my car, sealed in a bag, for accidents. Thankfully (knock on wood!) I've never needed it. My normal camera I usually carry around in my purse, too, for random pictures. Yours looks like it takes fabulous pictures--and I'm sure the photographer has a lot to do with that!

Glad to hear you had a good Christmas, all in all--here's to hoping that New Year's is just as great, only without the destruction and need for pain killers. ^_^;

Very glad you are able to think/write/post about the accident, though it seems a stretch to presume you're "alright". Back injuries are a bitch. The airbag not deploying, yeah, not good.

Here's hoping your recovery is as pain-free as possible.

First off, PRETTY Christmas pics!

Second, geezubs cripes. Lawyer for KIA and lawyer for the girl that caused the accident. Are you going after the brat in court?

You take care of that back of yours, and you might want to see if you can find a good chiropractor. I'm glad nothing worse happened, but hoy geezubs... I wish someone would create some kind of scanner for the police that can scan a persons brain and automatically determine if they're an idiot driver or not, because people like that kid do NOT deserve to have their drivers licenses.

*hugs you veeeeerry carefully*

Ack, hope you heal fast from the accident - did she have insurance?? *hugs*

Your pictures are awesome!! Wow, your folks, John, Jack look so great and the tree, whoa! (Am in serious want of your camera, lol)

Thanks for sharing!

Holy crap! Glad you're okay (and what a coincidence to have your camera on you to take photographic evidence). It's scary to know your airbag didn't deploy though. D: I hope your case against Kia goes well cause that sort of thing is downright dangerous.

Ouch! I am sorry about your car, but so glad you are okay! (Relatively speaking.) It's good to check on the air bag issue, but it is very possible that the circumstances really weren't right for it to deploy (http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/people/injury/airbags/airbags03/page3.html).
Bet you scared the hell out of the girl you hit!

Nice pictures - congrats on the new camera.

If that's not a Frontal or a Near Frontal impact and I was going about 15-20 mph... according to that link it should have definitely deployed. My whole front end is MOOSHED, Dead on T-bone.

The point is that air bag deployment isn't always cut-and-dry - you can't always tell just by looking at the car or the speed of impact whether it should have gone off. And according to the NHTSA link, in a direct crash into another vehicle, one would, generally speaking, expect the air bags to deploy at a roughly 28 mph impact (if striking a vehicle of similar size). Given the size/weight difference of your vehicles, I would imagine that yours should have deployed at a lower speed than that figure, but even so, I think that it would have to be evaluated by an expert to determine for sure if it was an error or not.

That's why I wanted a lawyer to look at it... If it should have deployed then there is a serious problem that could lead to a recall if necessary. That's a pretty serious thing to have defective.

I'm sorry about your car, but glad you're mostly okay. Holiday driving is always so dangerous. Your license plate made me laugh, though. Do you get a lot of honks and waves?

At fairly low speeds, airbags can actually cause more injury than they prevent. Mine beat the hell out of me during an accident a few years ago that left my car perfectly drivable with just a damaged bumper. I've got an enormous scar to prove it. Airbags cost a ton, too - not that money even remotely compares to your health, but in a more minor accident, it could be as much as 90% of the repair cost (it was for me, anyway).

How bad was the damage to your radiator? Looked like anti-freeze under the car.

But oh my those Christmas pictures are beautiful. Glad for the most part you had a lovely holiday, and was very glad to get your card. Hope insurance helps cover the car, and that you feel better by now. (I'd hate to say soon since I'm like way behind on this. >_<)
