Old Friends Reunited....

Oh what a lovely morning... I just spoke to one of my best friends that I haven't spoken to since 1991!
15 fucking years! Thank you GOOGLE!

Mike was one of my dearest buds all through high school then we went to VanderCook College of Music Together.

He had a hell of a time in those years, being Gay and totally in the closet. He ended up transferring to another University it got so bad for him and then we lost touch.
I moved to California in 1992.

I found him! I was sitting here being all nostalgic and thinking about him, he was like my brother man.

He still *IS* It's like no time passed at all on the phone with him. I'm all sappy and crying now.
He's director of Fine arts and Music Here: http://www.mountclemensumc.org/Arts%20and%20Music.htm

And OMG the tall (REALLY TALL) guy in the pictures that's balding.. that's MIKE!
It's how I knew it was him, I'd recognize that nose in profile anywhere!

Here's Mike and I in 1987/1988 (I'm a Junior and Mike is a Senior in High School here so that Makes me 16 and Mike 17) we're in our "Sandpiper" show choir costumes backstage somewhere at some musical competition.

I still have no boobs! I could never keep them damn straps up!

no boobs + Spaghetti straps = SLIPPAGE unless you tape the shit on!

He's lost a little hair since then. (So have I for that matter... O_O Big 80's hair!)
He filled out nice too... He was always a tall guy... I loved standing next to Mike since he made me SHORT!
I'm 6' tall, Mike was easily 6'4" if not taller.

After College, just before I moved to California, I got a Random call from Mike, he was over at Purdue university. (I did not go there mind you.)
And he told me to get my ass over there (1 hour drive away) ASAP that I had to audition for the musical because I was "perfect" for the role.

I went: "Mike... I don't GO TO PURDUE!"
Mike: Yeah, yeah, just get over here bitch!
Me: I went. I got the leading role. O_o

So I played Moll Flanders to Mike's Jemy Toliver (The lovers)
It was like kissing my brother man!

The funniest part was his mother: "I don't know why you two never dated. You were always so close..."

Me and Mike: ".... Um.... NO!"
#1.) Mike was still in the closet to all but me back then....
#2.) See above... GAY!
#3.) Like my brother man! No way!

We had a good giggle over that one. Then I began teaching choreography over at a little podunk High School, where I was casting the musical "SNOOPY" for the kids.
Mike came over as my musical director for it... and the kid we wanted to cast as SNOOPY? It was against his religion to DANCE...

So we cast him as Linus and had him sitting most of the musical hanging onto his blanket and singing...
We cast a cute girl as snoopy and she did great... then Mike went to yet ANOTHER university (He ended up going through FOUR univerities before he graduated)
and I moved to California... We totally lost touch.

I Googled him and found him!

But it was so great to talk to him, he's doing great, he has a husband now and is happy.
I'm happy for him, so much so I'm blubbling! You never forget Friends as dear as he was to me
and you know it's great when you pick up the Phone and say "Hi, Mike, it's Dana (Bistrow), remember me?"
And he squeals and does the "OMG YES!!!! DAAAANA!!!!" and you sit and gossip like you haven't been apart 15 years!

I'm off for a tissue now.

Also, Mom had both and Endoscopy and Colonoscopy this morning and Dad just called and everything is perfect, she's coming around now and they'll be home soon.
Mom is just fine. (This was just a routine screening for her age.)

Picked up the family cards from Kinkos too this morning... less than a 24 hour turn around.
All in all... a VERY good morning.

It was like kissing my brother man!

*snickers* Unless the play version changed the story rather significantly, it would be, wouldn't it? ;)

Or wait, Jemy is the highwayman, not her long lost brother, after all. It's been a while since I read MF...and here I thought I was being all clever. *g*

Yeah, Jemy was the one she went to America with in the End... both criminals. ^_^

She married a guy in America, though, and ended up finding out he was her brother...I don't think they were the same person, though, 'cause I think she met that husband there. Jemy was the one that stood out 'cause he was dirt poor but she was in love with him.

...it really has been a while. ;)

Yeah.. Moll was all fucked up.
She didn't marry Jemy no... but she did have a torrid lifelong affair with him, then they parted.. met again in prison and got shipped off to America together then she married someone else.

Our play ended at the shipping off to America part.

Aha! That is it! I read that book for a class about a million years ago and most of what I remember is how she kept inventorying her stuff. *g*

I think that is probably a happier place to end a play!

Anyway, since my joke totally failed, I am still glad you found your friend. ;)

:) I think it's wonderful that you called him. There are people I really liked in shcool but I haven't seen them since.

To me the fact that you two could talk after 15 years, like you have never been apart says a lot. :D

That really brightened my day.

I'm also very happy that your mother's tests were good.

that's so awesome. i'm really happy for you. long lost reunions are the best. of course, i've never had one of 15 years. mostly because that would make me seven when i lost touch with the friend, and it's hard to get nostalgic over tree houses and pillow forts and microwaved barbies. added bonus of a picture of D in high school. you know, you probably could have been a good four inches shorter without the hair... just saying.

living for inspiration,
